Weekly, Biweekly, or Monthly? How to Choose a Cleaning Schedule

Once you’ve decided to hire a cleaning service, the next question is how often. Book too rarely and the house never quite feels clean. Book too often and you’re paying for visits you don’t really need.

There’s no single right answer, but there is a right answer for your home. It comes down to how many people live there, what they bring in with them, and how clean you want things to feel on an ordinary Tuesday. Here’s how to figure it out, whether you’re in a St. Pete family home, a beach condo in St. Pete Beach, or a quiet street in Kenneth City.

Weekly cleaning

Weekly is for homes that get dirty fast and households that want them to stay clean all the time. It usually makes sense if you have:

  • Kids, especially young ones
  • Dogs or cats that shed, or more than one pet
  • Four or more people living in the home
  • Someone with allergies who feels the difference when dust builds up
  • A home near the beach where sand comes in every day

Because the house never gets far from clean, each weekly visit is the quickest of the three options. Most people who switch to weekly say the biggest change isn’t how the house looks on cleaning day. It’s that they stop spending their weekends catching up.

Biweekly cleaning

Every two weeks is the most popular schedule, and for most homes it’s the best balance of cost and results. Bathrooms and kitchens get cleaned before build-up sets in, floors never go long enough to feel gritty, and you only have to keep up with the daily stuff in between. Biweekly usually fits:

  • Couples and small families
  • Homes with one pet
  • People who work from home and want help, but don’t need the house spotless every day

Monthly cleaning

Monthly works for smaller homes, light-use households, and people who keep up well on their own and want a professional to handle the harder jobs. It’s a good fit for a one or two person condo or apartment, or a seasonal home that’s lived in only part of the year.

The trade-off is that a month is long enough for soap scum, dust, and kitchen grease to build up, so each visit takes longer than a weekly or biweekly one. If you go monthly, it helps to wipe down bathrooms and the kitchen yourself once in between.

A quick way to decide

Think about the point in the week when the house starts to bother you. If it’s three or four days after a cleaning, weekly is probably right. If it’s around ten days, biweekly. If it still feels fine after two weeks, monthly will do.

You can also start with biweekly and adjust. Schedules aren’t permanent, and it’s normal to change frequency when life changes: a new baby, a new dog, a houseguest season, or kids heading back to school.

Florida things that change the answer

A few things about living here push some homes toward more frequent cleaning:

  • Sand. In beach towns like St. Pete Beach, sand gets tracked across floors and into slider tracks faster than most people expect.
  • Humidity. Bathrooms in a Florida home can grow mildew in grout and caulk in a couple of weeks, especially in showers without a good exhaust fan.
  • Pollen and oak. Spring pollen and live oak debris coat lanais, window sills, and anything near an open door.
  • Seasonal living. Snowbirds often book weekly or biweekly while they’re here and pause while they’re away. Our snowbird guide covers closing and reopening a seasonal home.

Start with a reset

Whatever schedule you pick, the first visit is usually a deep clean. That gets the home to a clean baseline, so every regular visit after it is maintaining instead of catching up. If you’re not sure what the difference is, see our guide to regular vs. deep cleaning. Regular clients usually see the same cleaners from visit to visit, so the team learns how you like things done.
